Peter B Gingrich, grandfather to Grace Huggins Hartman

 Peter B Gingrich, born January 14, 1828, possibly in Boston, Massachusetts, moved to Neosho county sometime in the 1870s where he died in his home January 10, 1910.  His obit says he moved in 1869 but the family was listed on the 1870 federal census in Clark county, Ohio. It would be interesting to check the courthouse records in Erie to see if we could find anything in the land records there.

Her Father Dead
       Peter B Gingrich, a respected and well beloved citizen, died suddenly at his home in Neosho county, Monday noon, January 10th, aged 81 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was the father of Mrs. David Kirby of this city. Two of Mr. Gingrich's uncles fought under General Washington and one took part in the famous
"Boston Tea party."

Heart Trouble Caused P.B.Gingrich's Death
He Would Have Been 84 Years Old Friday and Had Lived in This County Since 1869 --

Funeral Thursday at 11 a.m.

     P.B. Gingrich, 83 years old and for more than forty years a resident of this county, died very suddenly at his home near Rollin, southeast of Chanute, yesterday afternoon. The funeral services with be held from his late home at 11 o'clock Thursday morning.  They will be conducted by Rev. George Manser of Glen Elder, Kansas. Interment will be made in Elmwood Cemetery here.
     Mr. Gingrich's death came suddenly. He was taken sick at 8 o'clock Sunday evening with heart trouble, but became better. Yesterday noon he came to table for dinner with the family as usual.  He had eaten but a few bites, however, when he excuse himself and went into an adjoining room, saying he was not feeling well and wanted to lie down.
     Shortly afterward the family's attention was directed to a sound at the door of the room into which Mr. Gingrich had gone.  They went to investigate.  When they opened the door, they found him kneeling against it. He threw his arms around one of them and expired while clasping him.
    Mr. Gingrich would have been 84 years old next Friday.  He came to this county in 1869 from Ohio and homesteaded the farm upon which he died, where he had resided continually for more than forty years. 
     He was married twice.  His first wife died in 1867.  His second survives him.  He also leaves eight children - Mrs. David Kirby of Iola; Mrs. Belle Huggins of Garnett; Mrs. Minerva Milton of Chanute; Mrs. Alex Mosier of Chanute; Mrs. Albert Correll of Parsons; Calvin Gingrich of Troy, Ohio; Samuel Gingrich of this city; and Thomas Gingrich of Rollin.
